Renovating property is something that I have never thought of doing myself. Of course, I love all those programmes you find on the TV. Flipping homes in the USA, Homes under the hammer here in the UK. I always marvelled at how a property once looked to how someone created it into a masterpiece. Of course, making a tidy profit doing it. How did they manage it? But yet, as I sipped my cup of tea or nibbled on a biscuit the thought of having a hammer and chisel in my own hands never really crossed my mind.
Fast forward to today and we are three weeks into our first renovation project. How did that happen? If you have read out about us page you will know that my husband is the one who is the brains and muscle behind this operation. He has done this before, many times in the past. When we first discussed renovating property I didn’t think it would be something we would be doing at this time of our lives. It was always something for the future. But after careful consideration, and a lot of saving, we decided to take the plunge and casually look around for properties that had opportunity.
The causal looking turned into saved searches on property websites and then one cool summer evening we spotted a gem. It was me that initially found our first renovation project, I am taking full credit for that. I was sat at my iMac sipping a glass of wine and there was this house. A three story grade II listed building in a lovely rural location that just needed some love and attention.
We drove up to the house that very evening and decided it was worth an internal viewing, even if we were still a little premature in our decision making process. We viewed a few days later, an offer went in and after some negotiation the house was ours, subject to all the contracts and surveys being fine.
I didn’t sleep that night, I will be honest. But after a few hiccups, and a stressful buying process the keys were in our hands at the beginning of November this year (2016) and we have begun the renovation. I plan to blog all about the buying process, the ups, downs and a few tips on negotiating. But I thought this blog deserved a bit of background of how we came to this point.
Have you ever jumped head first into a new phase of your life? Do you renovate properties? We would love to hear from you in the comments below.

How exciting. My son is currently in the buying process as he wants a place to do up, I’m not sure whether I could stand all the stress and mess. I look forward to your story x
It is a dream to do up properties but not one I think we will do in the near future. Good Luck 🙂
I do tend to jump headfirst too but I think its a good quality to have. I wish you all the best with the renovation process!

This sounds really exciting. We haven’t renovated a property but we did do some major building works at home this time last year.
Sounds super exciting! This is something I would definitely love to be involved in.
I would absolutely love to renovate a house. I think it’s definitely something on my bucket list and would be amazing for everyone to try in the future. x
